COME & DISCOVER THE EVOLUTION OF THE GOTHIC STYLE IN PORTUGAL COMBINED WITH MOORISH INFLUENCES AND NAVAL INSPIRED ORNAMENTATION : THAT IS MANUELINE STYLE (16th CENTURY)


Schedule

1st day  LISBON/SINTRA (30Km) Lodging at the superbly refurbished Hotel Palácio Seteaislocated within a 18th century palace.

2nd day  SINTRA/PENICHE (60Km) Do not leave Sintra before visiting the Royal Palace (Summer Residence of the Royal family since 15th cent) and hire a horse drawn carriage up to the Pena Palace, an architecture fantasy of the 19th century in neo manueline inspiration. Drive on to Peniche, bustling fishing harbor. Lodging  at    Hotel Atlântico-Golf strategically located on the dunes.

3rd day  PENICHE/ÓBIDOS/BATALHA (50Km) Óbidos is not to be missed: a medieval village surrounded by its ancient walls.Alcobaça & Nazaré are worth an attentive visit. Overnight in Pousada da Batalha just by the Gothic-Manueline monastery (classified World Heritage by UNESCO).

4th day  BATALHA/COIMBRA/BUÇACO (130Km) Coimbra has a lot to be seen: the University Renaissance building the baroque Library and the manueline tombs of the first Portuguese kings in Santa Cruz Church. Proceed to Buçaco a secluded Park where we have reserved for you Hotel Palace do Buçaco - a romantic neo-manueline Hotel.

5th day BUÇACO/FÁTIMA/TOMAR/ÉVORA (250Km) After Fátima, arrive at Tomar to visit the templar Knights Convent (World Heritage) where the Manueline window of the chapter Room is considered the masterpiece of Manueline art. Continue to Èvora (this too is World Heritage) and spend the night at Pousada dos Lóios probably the most famous Pousada of them all located in a convent with manueline cloister and fountain.

6th day  ÉVORA/SETUBAL/LISBON (150Km) Enjoy the visit of Évora (the manueline Palace, the Cathedral among others) but stop at Setubal at church-Convent of Jesus of which is said to be one of the finest examples of manueline delicate architecture. At Lisbonyou will be staying two nights at York House an old convent converted into a small hotel.

7th day  LISBON A full day dedicated to the main manueline monuments: Jerónimos Monastery & tower of Belém (both of them being World Heritage testify of their importance)

8th day  After breakfast - End of our services.
