ARCHAELOGICAL TOUR IN PORTUGAL
Beyond the expectable and important archaeological sites of the Roman or Moorish periods, Portugal has an array of nearly unknown excavation sites that will surprise you. Let us guide you to this fantastic by-gone world – be prepared to be taken back to to 5.000 bC.
Day 1 – Lisbon |
Arrival at LISBON airport and meeting with our guide – a expert in history & archaeology – who will escort you during the whole tour.
After a short panoramic city drive , arrival at the selected hotel in Lisbon.
Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 2 – Lisbon |
Full day excursion to explore the capital city of Portugal:
In the morning viist of OLD LISBON including the Moorish Castle (São Jorge) and Moorish quarter (Alfama) the Cathedral erected above the ruins of the former Mosque and the Archaelogical Museum of Carmo.
After lunch, besides the major UNESCO Heritage monuments (Monastery of jerónimos and Tower of Belém) we will make a detailed visit of national Museum of archaeology.
Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 3 – Lisbon / Monsaraz / Évora |
Leave for the Alentejo province where one can find the most important megalithic monuments of the Iberian Peninsula : Escoural (dolmen and grotto) and Monsaraz the old walled village and castle.
In the afternoon we shall visit the Cromlech of Xerês and Almendres a most spectacular megalithic site erected on a hill side among groves of olive and cork trees and dating back to 5.000 b.C .
Dinner and overnight at hotel in Évora.
Day 4 – Èvora / Tomar / Condeixa |
After a brief visit of the historical centre of Évora (UNESCO heritage city) not missing the Roman Temple to Diana and the gothic cathedral, we shall proceed northwards to Almourol to visit this enchanted Moorish Castle built on a small island in the middle of the Tagus.
In Tomar we cannot miss the Convent of Christ , ancient siege of the Templar Order in
Portugal
(Unesco heritage) before we reach the final destination at Condeixa-a-Nova.

Day 5 – Condeixa / Conímbriga / Porto |
After a break for lunch in a regional restaurant in Coimbra, we shall visit the old University buildings and its worldwide famous baroque library.The whole morning will be dedicated to the visit of Conímbriga, the most important roman excavating site in Portugal.
Continue on to Oporto.
Dinner and overnight in hotel in Oporto.
Day 6 – Porto / Guimarães / Porto |
Morning city tour of this important Portuguese city not forgetting the visit to a port wine cellar with wine tasting followed by a regional lunch in restaurant.
In the afternoon visit of Citania Briteiros and Sanfins, two Iron Age proto-urban settlements. This visit will be completed in Guimaraes at Museum Martins Sarmento.
Back to Oporto for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 – Porto / Foz Coa / Régua |
Leave in the early morning for Foz Coa Archaelogical Site, a pre-historic rock art site with sketches and drawings on the granite stones that specialists date back to 10-12.000 years b.C.
In the afternoon drive along the Douro Valley (Unesco landscape heritage) where the vines from which port wine is produced grow on terraced hills.
Dinner and overnight at Régua by the Douro River.
Day 8 – Régua / Batalha / Nazaré / Óbidos |
Drive south wards to Batalha to visit major
gothic religious building in Portugal and then
Nazaré, a typical fishing village rediscovered
by surfers in recent years. Waves can reach
more than 20 meters high on special tidal days.
Continue to Óbidos, reputed to be among
the most beautiful medieval villages in Europe.
Stroll in the quaint streets before retiring for
dinner and overnight at Óbidos.
Day 9 – Óbidos / Cascais / Lisbon |
Drive to Sintra and visit the archaeological Museum of Odrinhas, then proceed to Cape Roca, the westernmost point of Continental Europe.
The road to Lisbon offers a beautiful scenery of passing through the beach resort small towns of Cascais and Estoril.
Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight in Hotel in Lisbon
Day 10 – Lisbon |
10thday – transfer to Lisbon airport and END of OUR SERVICES
