BETWEEN TWO BRIDGES
(4 HOURS TOUR)
In April 1500 the Portuguese navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral reached Brazil
The excursion starts at Parque das Nações where the World Expo 98 was held and fine examples of vanguard architecture of its buildings can still be seen. A visit to the Oceanarium, one of the world’s largest where rare aquatic species are to be found, can be included but bear in mind it takes at least one hour. Continue now southward across Vasco da Gama bridge (16km long and opened in 1998) a most beautiful work of engineering, till Palmela to enjoy the lovely panorama from the castle ramparts - refreshments can be served! Then drive back to Lisbon across the (old) suspension bridge but before we make a stop by the Cristo-Rei monument from where one gets an extensive view over the city spreading over its valleys and hills, the harbor and the Tagus.
