Leave the pier and drive downtown, pass the huge riverside square, Praça do Comércio, the Baixa, heart of Lisbon with its geometric streets and regular façades dating from the 18th century Illuminism. Along modern avenues till Monsanto park from where one gets a superb view of Lisbon and the Tagus. Return to the riverside to admire the bizarre fortress known as Belém Tower (it has been classified by UNESCO as World Heritage), the Monument to the Sea Discoveries and the façade ofMonastery of Jerónimos (this too is World Heritage). Then reach the highest point of the tour: the visit of the Coach Museum, a dazzling collection of Royal Coaches most dating from the 18th century displayed in the ancient Royal Riding Hall. Back to the pier after a short stop for buying postcards and souvenirs.
